Proof of many foreigners becoming M'sians in Sabah: MP

DAILY EXPRESS NEWS

Kuala Lumpur: The easy issuance of MyKads and birth certificates to foreigners in Sabah must be stopped immediately and the best way to ensure this is by setting up a Royal Commission of Inquiry.

Sepanggar MP Eric Enchim Majimbun said this when debating in support of the King's Royal Address at the Parliament.

He said there were too many examples of foreigners who suddenly became Malaysians overnight.

Citing a birth certificate with the serial number SB119075 issued on June 20, 2000, he said the details on the holder's parents were clearly stated as non-citizen.

Another birth certificate with serial number SB138021 with similar parents' details issued on Nov. 24, 2002, clearly stated the holder as a Malaysian citizen.
"The residential status of the mother is as a Malaysian with MyKad coded 12," he said.

Citing another case, Majimbun said the birth certificate numbered 4267/85, showed that the mother holds passport number 0009049 but strangely the holder identification card is also coded 12.

In yet another case, the holder of the birth certificate SB19791 stated that the father's status was a "temporary resident" but possessed an Identity Card coded 12.

"To my knowledge, if the person is only a temporary resident, he should not possess MyKad," he stressed.

Citing yet another case, he said the birth certificate 0728/83 registered on Feb. 12, 1998, showed that the parents were non-Malaysians.

"But we found out that the birth certificate with serial number SB20012 and registered on April 15, 2004, stated that the father and son are Malaysian citizens that possess identification card coded 12," he said.

Majimbun said there was another case where a birth certificate 1237/84 stated that the parents were passport holders and that the child in 1997 had obtained a temporary identification receipt where his status was written as Malaysian.

Such problem regarding to MyKad and birth certificate is very rampant in Sabah, he said, adding that the recent case of a Sabahan woman busted by the authorities for forgery on IMM13 documents was only the tip of the iceberg.
He said there were many court cases where foreigners were found to be in possession of Malaysian Ics.

According to him, these people also have gone over to West Malaysia such as in Perak where several prostitutes were caught having MyKads issued in Sabah.
"Initially, the authorities thought these women were Sabahans but after investigation found they were actually foreigners."

In another case, the newspaper reported that a foreign lorry driver had died in an accident but was holding MyKad from Sabah.

Several years ago, Majimbun said a few foreigners with Malaysian identity cards even tried to join the army.

"These people probably have emigrated all over Malaysia by now," he said. "Therefore, the Government must be aware and act immediately to stop registration of these foreigners."
